Eclectic??

I'm curious....what styles of music do you listen to besides Southern Gospel music?

I have such a wide spectrum of styles in my collection that it's hard to identify everything. I have easy listening, old-school jazz, classic and modern rock, reggae, folk, country, pop....you name it, I'm sure I have it somewhere (with the exception of grunge rock and rap....I don't categorize that as music, per se).

So let's hear it!!

Eclectic is an excellent word....

My favorite is SG, but a close second is Rockabilly (think BR5-49 or The Slaughtermen from down-under{shout out to DBM for turning me on to them}).

Ray Stevens makes my playlist regularly as does old mountain bluegrass (Primitive Quartet, Good Shepherd Quartet) and old country music.

I also like classic rock (50's & 60's).

Now for SG, I'm enjoying local gospel groups more than full-time groups recently because in a concert setting, full time groups tend to sound just like their CD without any additional emotion behind their music....or at least that's the trend I've noticed in the last several pro-group concerts I've attended. Groups like The Phillips Family have really caught my attention because after seeing them in a church service, I appreciate their recordings so much more because you can tell they love who they are singing about. (I'm rambling...sorry!)

Great topic!

I listen to a bit of Inspirational (Steve Green etc.) every now and then, and classical very occasionally (namely, "The Messiah" at least once each Christmas).

Nice topic Kyle. In addition to SG, I like some older CCM (early MWS, 4Him, POG), oldies (50s-some70s), some jazz, pop/AC/soft rock (whatever you want to call it), some country, a little classical, r&b, a little bluegrass, and inspirational/choral. How's that for eclectic???

"Eclectic" has been my main self-describing adjective for a while now. I largely prefer Southern Gospel, but I love choral music (thanks to college concert choir), anything a cappella (done well, that is), early 20th century American popular music, swing, big band, jazz, nature (rainstorm, frogs, birds), and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture (among other orchestral music)...to name a few.

Adam,
I'm with you about full time groups. Why even have a concert with live performrs? Just gather some people together at your church and play a certain group's CD over the venue's P.A. and save alot of promotional expenses. That's what we hear when a group shows up anyway.....they are lip syncing to their CD.
