EHSS perform tribute to the Oaks

Joe Bonsall said that this was a big surprise to the Oaks when they saw EHSS on stage. Apparently their manager, Jim Halsey, worked out the details for everything while they were shooting the new Gaither DVD on the Boys. Pretty cool if you ask me.

UPDATE: Duane Allen had an interesting observation....
There is not another four part harmony group [left] in country [music], so the William Morris Agency and Jim Halsey had to get a group from Gospel music that could do Oaks' music. That says a lot about the talen in Gospel music, and in particular, Ernie Haase and Signature Sound.

"Spirit Of Christmas" re-release this year

I have uploaded songs from my Spirit Of Christmas project on my music profile on MySpace. If you like what you here, I will be re-releasing Spirit Of Christmas on September 30th for order, so be sure to let me know if you want to purchase a copy (and for those who may have requested a copy previously, please let me know this time, as I will have a much bigger supply this year!!). Originally released in 2006, this is by far my favorite project of all that I have done so far.

I'll also be doing a regional single release of my original composition, "Gotta Find That Gift," to radio stations all around the area. If you know of a radio station that needs a copy, shoot me an e-mail and let me know!!

A new offer available this year will be the entire album in mp3 format. The details are still being worked out, but I should have that available by mid-October.

If you have not done so yet, be sure to add my music profile to your friends list!!

UPDATE: The digital downloads are done ahead of schedule!!!

Just hit the note (?)

A while back, I posted about noticing something interesting regarding the Cathedrals' live performances. When George would do a bass slide, watch Glen closely....almost every time, you can see Glen point down, as if to signal to George, "just hit the note!" The first time I saw it was while watching "An Evening With The Cathedrals." I've seen it several times since then, and I believe that it was just something that Glen did to subtly draw attention to the low notes (perhaps without even thinking), but watch the clip below....I always get a chuckle when I see it on this song. It's very deliberate, and whether it is meant that way or not, it still comes across as saying, "Okay, George, hit it and be done."

To quote the Perrys....

"I really wish I could've been there....." NQC, that is!

I try my best to get to NQC each year, and had actually taken off all this week to accomodate for it, but changes in my schedule wiped out any chance I had of making it this year. As a result, not only am I left as one of the only bloggers who doesn't have a first-hand experience with the event, but I also miss out on the treasure hunting at Gospel Gallery and the like (I always come home with a full bag and an empty bank account).

Last year, I found a DVD release of the Cathedrals' Travelin Live video, which was long-thought to be permanently out of print. I also picked up Gold City's Heritage Collection DVD set and the soundtrack CD for Revival (if anyone can check for me, could you see if they have a soundtrack CD for Moment of Truth yet?!).

That being said, I'm interested to see what kind of surprises people have found while going through the booths. Have any old albums been re-issued on CD recently? Do the artists have any "surprise" projects at their tables? Any "lost recordings" located in a record crate?

N'Harmony Returns!!

Charlotte NC- For almost ten years N'Harmony's youthful sound and energy wowed audiences where ever they went. Now nearly six years after news of their retirement, N'Harmony returns stronger than ever, poised and ready to pick up right where they left off. Original lead singer and founder Shane Dunlap states, "I have been thinking about a return for along time, but I wanted to find the right guys with the same exact goals." Joining Shane (N'Harmony and Signature Sound) is Tenor Brent Mitchell (Mercy's Mark), Baritone Chris Whitaker (Won by One and Crystal River), and Bass Will Van Wyngarden (Journeymen Qt.). Shane says, "Every single guy in this group has their priorities in order."

They were in the studio recently put the finishing touches on a brand new favorites project, and will be kicking things off Oct. 17th and 18th with concerts in Northern Ireland and Scotland.

For more info or scheduling contact nharmonysings@gmail.com. You can also visit N'Harmony's brand new myspace page with clips of the new recording at www.myspace.com/nharmonyquartet

This is great (and interesting) news. I always hoped Shane would come back to quartet singing, and the lineup for the group looks like it could really go places.

Eclectic??

I'm curious....what styles of music do you listen to besides Southern Gospel music?

I have such a wide spectrum of styles in my collection that it's hard to identify everything. I have easy listening, old-school jazz, classic and modern rock, reggae, folk, country, pop....you name it, I'm sure I have it somewhere (with the exception of grunge rock and rap....I don't categorize that as music, per se).

So let's hear it!!

"Yesterday" redux

This is a little clearer clip of a song I previously had on this site (which is one of my favorite video clips) of The Cathedrals' "Yesterday." Sadly, the end of the clip is still flawed, and the final note is chopped somewhat, which is sad, because it is one of the BEST "hold 'em out" endings, right up there with the GVB's version of "I'm Free" (slightly better, in my opinion, because it is actually higher by a half step I believe, and Glen flat out nails accent on "same").

Signature Sound, eat your hearts out!!

Okay, so I'm on a YouTube kick today....it's Labor Day and I'm stuck at work!!

Signature Sound may be monopolizing the Southern Gospel Dancing On Stage act, but check out this clip of the Oaks in '77 - let's see Ernie and the gang move like that!!

Band of Gold

Sounding pretty good so far!!

"I'll Walk On"

I will begin my campaigning/lobbying for Gold City to release this song as a single right here....
