Interesting comparison

In light of the new Oaks DVD coming out, here is a clip of both "Jesus Is Coming Soon" and "I Know," as performed by the Oaks in 1971 at the peak of their gospel popularity, just after they won a Grammy award. The line-up at this time consisted of Willie Wynn, Duane Allen, William Lee Golden, and Noel Fox.

Actually, the line-up at that time was Willie Wynn, Duane Allen, Bill Golden and Noel Foz. Bill didn't become known professionally as William Lee until years later. :-)

This is my first time seeing Willie Wynn, but he didn't look like he knew the music and didn't blend very well, had he just joined the group? Also interesting to see the big "chops" on Duane, the color in "Goldens" hair and how young Tommy was...lol

DJPHil, Willie was in the group long before any of the guys in that clip were in it. He joined in the late fifties.(Around 1959.) He actually is more reserved in these cuts (especially the first) than in other places. If you heard how much he stood out on those you would think he was much better at blending here. :-)
